Business days: weekends, holidays and deadlines

Follow a Christmas holiday example and see how workweeks, start-date rules, custom dates and deadline adjustment change a planned date.

One working day can cross several calendar dates

Start on Thursday 24 December 2026, exclude the start date, choose Monday–Friday and England & Wales, then add one business day. The result is Tuesday 29 December. Christmas Day on Friday is excluded, Saturday and Sunday are outside the workweek, and Monday 28 December is the Boxing Day substitute holiday. See the published GOV.UK dates.

Make the counting rules visible

A positive amount counts forward; a negative amount counts backward. “Count the start date” uses that date only if it is a working day. The final working day counts. Weekends, selected public holidays and custom dates are never deducted twice when they overlap. Zero days keeps the start date before any adjustment.

In deadline mode, choose the next or previous working day to move a non-working date. A date that is already working stays unchanged. This is a configurable workday planner; it does not apply statutory notice periods, court rules or contractual deadlines.

Coverage and private dates

The same holiday engine serves Calendar and this planner. It supports Norway, Denmark, Sweden and the three UK bank-holiday jurisdictions. UK published dates cover 2019–2028; other years use recurring projections without exceptional holidays. Nordic dates before 1995 are historical projections, and future rules may change.

Custom days off are local to your browser. A share link leaves them out unless you opt in, so the shared answer may differ. The copied result includes the chosen rule basis. Sources and coverage are also available in Calendar.
